OUR WORLD: DOVES

Dove is a small, sweet and peace loving bird. In mythology, it is associated with all the virtues, which we prize as the most elevating possessions of humans. It is said to symbolize love, kindness, grace, self sacrifice and perfect motherhood. It is believed to have its own milk which she feeds her young ones. Near about the time of their hatching, it stays away from solid food to  purify its milk for the delicate digestion of its progeny.
Its coo cooing   always resonates a honeyed melodic effect!

The duo, tries to enter the back of the AC unit(above). The other is curiously waiting for the final decision to be made (below).

Today at 7 o'clock in the morning, I took my cup of tea in one hand and newspaper tucked under the other arm, to sit in the backyard to scan the headlines. What prompted me to do this was the cool breeze of the morning. I had hardly settled myself in the chair, when i heard flapping of  wings behind me.There was a pleasant surprise waiting for me, given that i love birds and am always inspired by them. I saw this dove couple surveying the outside unit of our split AC.
Obviously to build the nest, as i spied some twigs lying on the ground. The sad part was, they failed to execute it, as every twig came down right away. They gave it up soon after, but not before i had captured them in their efforts,

Friends,welcome here as always!

  2. I fail to understand this bird uppal. On the one hand it is smart enough to carry messages to the right destination but on the other,it just does not know where to build it's nest.In my balcony these birds repeatedly bring and shove twigs on the curtain rod --to no avail. This has been going on for years yet they cannot understand that the twigs will not stay put.

    1. Hi Indu,
Thanks for sharing your observation! But i think they're acting smart enough in here. Contrary to my expectations, the couple is back and has succeeded in putting some twigs securely on the shaft. It is in our back verandah, but we're not interfering at all!

  5. I think nesting near the A/C compressor is not a healthy spot, the birds perhaps disturbed by the heat and noise. Good capture on the pair of doves.

  6. The photo is beautiful, the two doves wondering what to do and probably planning on their next move.
