GURU NANAK DEV JI'S GURPURB TODAY

Indian Bloggers

CONGRATULATIONS AND BEST WISHES TO ALL ON THIS SACRED DAY!!!

"Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism, was born in 1469 in Rai-Bhoi-di Talwandi in the present Shekhupura District of Pakistan, now Nankana Sahib. His birth is celebrated on Kartik Poornima, the full moon day in the month of Kartik."

Guru Nanak Dev ji flanked by his disciples Bhai Bala and Bhai Mardana.

Nanak was apostle of peace, love and compassion. From his early childhood he, through his various actions showed signs of being an exceptional child. His sister Nanaki who loved him dearly understood his extraordinary traits and was sort of his first disciple. He was a great social reformer and believed in the equality of all human beings.  In the course of his life Nanak traveled far and wide spreading his message of truthful living and human brotherhood.

His message is enshrined in the words "Ek Onkar" There is one God and we're all His children.

Bhai Gurdas who compiled Adi Granth (Holy Book) in 1604 as dictated by the fifth guru, Guru Arjan was "an influential Sikh figure, writer, historian and preacher."

This is how he described Nanak's  emergence in the times when hypocrisy, falsehood, superstitions, hatred and envy reigned supreme.

"Satgur Nanak pargatya mitti dundh jag chanan hoa

jion kar sooraj niklya tarre chappe andher paloya.............."

(When Nanak appeared, mist of ignorance disappeared and the world was illumined. It was as if the sun has risen and stars disappeared and the darkness was dispelled.)

FLOWERS INSPIRE

                                                     Raise your words,
                                                    not your voice.
                                                    It is rain that
                                                    grows flowers,
                                                    not thunder.

                                                            -RUMI

The six petaled white flowers (perennials) have  come up with smiling and pure looking personas in fair numbers in our yard. In fact these are the only ones, which survived our four months absence during summer.

And also, I's  feeling totally barren  creatively this past week. Thanks to their cheerful, innocent appearance that woke me up to, what I's missing.

I always feel and rightly so that nature and flowers particularly, have the power of chasing the blues, which pull us down quite often.

Friends,welcome here as always!
