GREEN IS GREAT

All four major colors highlight the world so beautifully in their multiple shades.  Yet I’d say green is my favorite. Whenever I buy clothes for myself, I examine my shopping first thing on reaching home. It always surprises me to find the prominence of green tints in most of them. Then I realize I instinctively love green hues more than any other color.

Green is a vibrant color loaded with luster and freshness. It is the creation of the merger of two greats: yellow and blue. Green is special because of its versatile symbolism and widespread usage in our daily life. It is the color of nature. It signifies renewal, rebirth, and brilliance. Imagine the intoxicating emergence of greenery showing its lush wealth of myriad shades after the arrival of spring’s queenly presence. The jaw-stopping spectacle of soothing and bright ambiance, which follows, generates an unexplainable tug at the heartstrings.

The charm of the resurgence of greenery after the merciless onslaught of winter inebriates the senses of the initiated. When the vegetation thrives with the benedictions of spring, the lush greenery gives the message of eternal hope of better days, which always lie in wait. For humanity, green surroundings work like magic to revive the sagging spirits. Forgetting all disappointments the mood is charged with exuberance for the life process.  Plants, trees, flowers and all vegetation buoys our resolves while soothing our perceptions and diluting our prejudices.
.....

Here are some instances of how the color green participates in our cultural paradigms. Green’s inferences are an important part of our phraseology with interesting semantics.

Indian national flag called the tricolor (Tiranga) has three horizontal bands. Topmost is saffron, the middle is white with a dharma chakra in its center and the last is green. Here green embodies fertility, growth, and sacredness.

google images both.
Medical research has made us aware that green vegetables like broccoli, spinach, mustard greens, kale etc. are a reservoir of micronutrients essential for our good health. They contain potent antioxidants, which strengthen our immunity against many serious ailments.

'Go green' is a campaign to preserve and safeguard our environment and plants against dreadful emissions.

'A Greenhorn' is the one who is yet raw and inexperienced. These days business houses train the greenhorns according to the requirements of the job.

The somewhat negative implication has the expression ‘to be green with envy’.  Not a great feeling of course.

You get the 'green light' when authorities give permission for starting some new project to the concerned company.

'Go green or turn green' is a look of sickness needing attention.

'The village green' is an area in the periphery of the village, which is not supposed to be disturbed with any building activity.

'Greenbacks' the name of the currency, which is always in the ascendancy, is slang for the US dollars.

'Green card' to acquire which gives sleepless nights to aspiring immigrants in the US.

I must mention the emerging preference for green tea all over the globe. Its anti-oxidant properties are making it a winner in the fraternity of various varieties of teas.

I admire the perseverance of the people with a 'green thumb' who create beautiful home gardens with utmost dedication.

There’re many more phrases but I feel this much will suffice for now.

NATURE NEEDS NO REMINDERS

Different aspects of phenomenon called NATURE in images below!!

Nature follows a perfect calendar. Have we ever doubted the appearance of the sun in the morning or the presence of the moon at night? Have we ever given a thought to the fact that seasons change on their own without any efforts on our part? Some overlapping there may be but the fundamentals remain the same.

Man’s relatedness to nature goes back to how many millennia, is difficult to guess. Even when man evolved exponentially, his kinship with nature grew stronger. His survival largely depends on nature’s bounties. Air, water, light, soil, plants, trees, warmth and energy sustain man’s life. Undoubtedly, nature all along has remained integral to man’s existence on earth.

It is axiomatic that man does not live for bread alone. God the creator had a unique plan for man to grow and lead a pleasurable life on this planet. Nature provided him with gorgeous spectacles! The mind-blowing Milky Way, vast open spaces, thick forest covers, countless flora and fauna, awe-inspiring oceans and mountains, amazing plateaus and plains and numerous bounteous gifts for his enjoyment- a testemony to His largesse vis- a- vis man.

Most of all nature endowed man with a super intellect. This intelligence, he uses to further his exploratory and risk-taking instincts.  He never feels fully satisfied and remains always in the act of becoming. Man’s imagination has transformed some aspects of the natural phenomenon for the benefit of humankind. To ward off complacency and test his resilience and endurance nature sometimes creates catastrophic situations. To find the solutions to humungous problems fuel his brainpower to battle unpleasant dynamics of life. Nature’s variety and challenges ensure that man might not self-destruct with boredom.

Below a blazing emblem of autumn!

Man can only prosper if he lives closer to nature as it protects and heals!

NATURE IS THE UNIVERSE

'N' is for Nature

Nature has no borders,

No conspiracies it harbors.

It is divinity  with a magic wand,

Vast, princely, utilitarian and beyond.

 Its kind and kingly universe,

Showers blessings, maintains gentle observe.

It nurtures flora, fauna and humankind

Forgives, forgets, instilling piety in the mind.

It is open, transparent and vouches for clarity,

Enfolds its squabbling subjects with charity.

It is a marvel-

How its subtle signals lead and inspire!

Ensures, the majesty intact of its crazy empire

However-

Nature’s unquestionable supremacy,

Holds man's existence in  absolute primacy.

I HAVE TONS OF THINGS TO DO

Apropos indispire challenge how I’d spend a week without modern day gadgets…

Admitted that I have a long held habit of glancing at the newspaper headlines with my morning cup of tea, but this I can push aside without any remorse any time.  My favorite editorial page no longer enlightens like old days. Coverage of political events seem more  biased and less objective. Still, though infrequently, an incisive critique in a Sunday edition does stir my interest. However, to give that up is no big deal either.

Strangely, I’ve little fascination for modern day mania of mobile use. I have never tried to figure out the plethora of Apps vying for attention in all conceivable commercial ventures. My mobile use is limited to keeping in touch with my near and dear ones and well-wishers.

TV has long ceased to be any source of something, which is pleasurable. The last serial, which I watched a few episodes of, before the story was dragged to oceanic lengths, but now almost forgotten was ‘Jassi Jaisa Koi Nahi.’ I really loved the gawky and ingenuous Jassi in the brutally competitive world of fashion. About TV debates, less said the better.

Therefore, friends do you think I’d have any regrets in giving up the above gadgets?  In fact, it’d be a situation like hitting a jackpot. I think like minded tribe is increasing by the day.

More time and my rendezvous with nature would widen its span. I’d  have plenty of time to linger in the park, while on my morning walk. I’d stop by the silver oaks, where my all weather friends: the capricious squirrels enact mind boggling display of their acrobatic skills. That too without entry tickets!  Birds on the trees will have an interested listener to their morning orchestra in the thick of foliage. The trees and other plants will swing back and forth in the cool breeze to impress the genuine admirer. My precious park companions would help me unwind by freezing the unpleasant moments. The purity of their cheerful bearing would open my mind to new ideas, for my love of writing.

At home front, more is always less.  My potted plants and herbs would be relieved to see me fussing over them lovingly. The gardener’s casual upkeep during four months of my absence had taken away their luster. The positive change in their looks would gladden my heart. What more could one ask for?

My ‘Kindle’ in its red jacket pushed to a corner on my table looks livid because of my cold approach towards it for a long time. I know it’d come round with my loving caress and realization of our deepest and reverent bonds.

A few books, which always lift my spirits  with gems of wisdom, and provide immense pleasure would accompany me to my bed after dinner. Hours slip by in the quietude of concentration while reading your favorite books.

Time for specific trips to the market for the important shopping that was always  relegated to the end of lists for endless essentials.

Small joys  always cheer me. I enjoy, sorting out the stuff in the cupboards to make the clothes breathe freely. The joyful gamble of coming across some items, which had been faded out of the memory zone, is an incentive enough to carry out the exercise.

Free time will  motivate me to assign regular hours for aerobic workouts and recommended exercises for my neck pain.

Not to forget the valuable time slot, which’d be available for ‘me’ time.  Up front would be introspection, focusing on self-improvement and on evolving an attitude of kindness and tolerance towards others. To develop enthusiastic participation in social causes would be  consciously contemplated.

Lack of time always stand in the way of executing pending tasks left in the lurch repeatedly. May be these have better luck this time.

In the absence of the onslaught of distractions, I’d laze around trying to hum lyrics of a much loved song. ‘Yeh zindgi usi ki hai jo kisi ka ho gya………

Friends, welcome to take ahead the conversation!

G IS FOR A GREEN BOOK

The green luster of stately pines captured at early morning today, from our balcony
And that green open book for me is nature in all its magnificent manifestations. A book perennially juxtaposing change and consistency, to a perfectly orchestrated  paradigm set by some super power. How I love this precious book which  not only stands by  me in the darkest moments of life but also unequivocally inspires me, excites me and gladdens my heart. To the initiated, this book has infinite dimensions to play life with. It is their for us gratuitously. Can any thing stand before its munificence? It doesn't divide or discriminate. It doesn't sow seeds of discord. It conveys a message of peace and goodwill. It showers its blessings upon all freely. It only loves, feeds  and shelters. It is a resurgent force which is potently restorative.

How it has patterned effusively with its green cover, our valleys, glens, mountains, and hill tops. It is their in wheat stalks, corncobs and numerous grain bearing plants which sustain mankind. it is their in the sweet smelling blazing beauty of the rose and in every bud and bloom.

It beckons us in spring to the magical charm of new life. In summer it fructifies and ripens our fruit and berries. The color and splendor of autumn is a feast for the eyes. Winter is their for reunions and renewals. Can one ask for more?

In the beginning of this creation of ours, this book supported and fed not only the human animal but legions of live organism nestling in its magnanimous fold. Our very existence was determined by the forces of nature. Our relatedness to nature was inherent in our very being. Modern  man has mostly separated himself from the overawing aspect of nature by understanding its working. However, man can neither sever his relatedness to nature nor ignore its significance in our lives. To do so would be to his own peril.

BEFRIENDING MY BALCONY

Early morning shot. The sun is rising behind me.
B is for 'BALCONY'

Every post takes some long thoughtful moments in mind mapping for hitting upon an apt theme or word, which stirs the flow of creative juices. Many subjects vie for attention, intruding the mental space but soon exit because of not finding the vital stimulating trigger. I don’t know how this particular search zeroed on the friendly and concrete ‘B’ word ‘Balcony’.

I feel each word has a personality of its own. Words can be kindly and sometimes as sharp as a razor’s edge. They picture the varied and private emotions so subtly as to affect the reader deeply. They can transport you to the heights of joy or throw you into the abyss of despair.  We all know a few appreciative words from a loved one; can catapult your spirits on the wings of delicious happiness. Alternatively, the despairing words may ruin your day.

The word ‘Balcony’ real and solid prodded my imagination and brought forth deluge of cheer and joy. I envisioned that I could somehow stretch its semantic boundaries to delve into its practical munificence.

I happen to be spending a couple of summer months surrounded by the idyllic Shivalik hills. Our flat has a balcony that overlooks  a narrow valley with magnificent view of hills, covered with groves of ramrod pines. I watch them either swaying majestically to low breeze or swathed with gossamer thin mists on rainy days. It is 7 pm and I’m in the midst of penning this piece. Suddenly I notice the darkness descending imperceptibly. I rush out to my balcony as not to miss the nature’s wonder. The clouds are in the process of cloaking my balcony with a white cover of hazy presence. I feel like holding the mystery in my hands but within seconds, it passes by.

My ‘Balcony’, in fact, has become the getaway to a new world, which is suffused with nature’s purity beyond the frivolities of everyday chores. The state of blessedness and gratitude at such holistic scenes is no less than being on cloud nine.

I bask in its glorious sunshine on cold days and allow the soft breeze tease my hair and sneak into my body playfully on warm days.

My esteemed ‘Balcony’ keeps me company while I stroll alongside its iron railing with my morning cup of tea. I listen to the mesmerizing noises of rainwater gushing down the slopes or slightly deafening but pleasing buzz of myriad entities dwelling in the forest cover.

The rain-washed gleaming vegetation all around my balcony is a source of great inspiration on daily basis. It is small but it is a source of pleasure, which sweeps away all the blues.

Now I realize why ‘small is beautiful.’ Small spaces, petite conveniences, terraces with flowerpots, balconies, and patios lend a peculiar charm to living, considerably enhancing the quality of life.

 Thanks for coming here!
