CLIFFHANGER ENDINGS

"I personally love a cliffhanger - I think it just extends the pleasure of viewing."

Have you noticed the cliffhanger endings in daily episodes of T.V. serials these days? I’m sure you have. This plot device ensures the ending to give a glimpse  of a shocking revelation or some unexpected turn about the fate of the main character.  This is something the serial makers use extensively and manipulatively to keep us hooked to a serial by whetting our curiosity to such a level that we wait for the drama the whole day to know what would happen next. The addictive daily food for entertainment in us is exploited to the hilt by finishing the episode at such a suspense-ridden point where surely we would be dying to know how the plot progressed further on.

The faculty of curiosity is part of our DNA and is as old as the human race itself. Especially stories for children are written keeping in mind this element. Why do children go overboard to read JK Rowling’s Harry Potter series? These are replete with magic, suspense and unimaginable elements.  Just recall how small children never feel tired of listening to the  the same story repeatedly! The hunger for thrill, excitement and the curiosity has no saturation point. Otherwise who'd tolerate gossip mongers and slander purveyors.  Salacious filmy gossip provides bread and butter to publishers of ever growing tribe of film magazines.

Our life similarly plays this card game with us frequently. We make our choices and we are sometimes symbolically left hanging from the edge of a cliff until we know the consequences of our decisions.

 Friends,welcome here as always!

Life is like it, indeed.... sometimes decisions can proove lesser good than thought of at first hand... but they are there for us to learn from, so that is a good thing

  4. I live for suspense. It's the only reason I watch TV. I am not a big fan of soap operas, I prefer dark. Yes, curiosity is in our DNA.
